CRAFTSMANSHIP
In finishing plates, extreme skill and considerable handwork are required. Plates must be leveled, trued-up, and carefully checked for high and low "spots." Halftone finishing is even more delicate and exacting. When completed, each plate must be accurate in thickness, and the printing surface uniformly true and sharp. As a final step, the non-printing sections of the plate are routed for the sure prevention of smudges on the printed sheet. The finishing of electrotype plates requires the skill of a watch-maker-and equal patience.
